    Introduction
"If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a quack" - watch!

Welcome to the alternative health site that is opposed to misinformation about medicine by those undereducated espousing archaic information that was generally thought to be true 30 years ago, but is no longer accepted by people who know how to read. The process of questioning and rejecting old information has quickened with the advent of Internet, and increased diversity of opinion was the result. Now some forces exist that are trying to put themselves as authorities, but they protect the established ideas, with disregard for modern studies because they don't read them. Instead they, e.g. Quackwatch, have taken to bullying. Fortunately, support for them is falling, but there are still publically funded organizations that want people to follow their advice by providing links on their sites. e.g. BC. Cancer Agency.

In the field of alternative medicine and medicine in general, one needs a broad knowledge of science. You can't go around and compare the tightly bound water molecules with the loosely bound mixtures of metals that we call "alloys" which can leach metals. But this analogy is what is used by Quackwatch to show that Mercury Amalgam is as safe as water. EPA however, considers Mercury Amalgam as a "hazardous material" before it has been put in your mouth and after it has been removed. You must handle this material with gloves and masks. But it's OK to put it in your mouth, because some doctors say it is safe! Everyone knows it's no good for you, but not Dr. Barrett, he knows EVERYTHING. He is a molecular biologist, physicist, doctor extraordinaire, so on and so on. He wants us to think he is THE authority on every field of science that concerns our health. But, as I have pointed out, he represents only one side of the debate, he does not have all the answers. But he is doing everything he can to silence the opposition through the courts. He wants to crush alternative medicine, i.e. your right to pick and choose what to do about your health. This cannot be allowed as long as I have anything to say about it.

UK Site Warns against Amalgam Want to take a chance that Amalgam might be OK? Go ahead. For the rest of us, let's err on the side of caution, shall we? After all, we can't reverse health effects later if we find there really was something to worry about.
Swedish Study shows Amalgam causes symptoms - pdf file.

What or whom is Quackwatch protecting, you or the dental profession's profits? The catchwords used are something like "there is no study proving..." EPA says it is dangerous, we should find out from them what study they are using instead of contradicting them right away. Dr. Barrett states that Mercury Amalgam is a combination of ingredients: "silver, tin, copper and zinc. When mixed these elements bond to form a strong stable substance (where's the proof? He doesn't provide any.). The difference between bound and unbound chemicals can be illustrated by a simple analogy. Elemental hydrogen is an explosive gas. Elemental oxygen is a gas that supports combustion. When combined, however, they form water, which has neither of these effects. Amalgam's ingredients are tightly bonded to each other. Although the types of chemical bonds in water and Amalgam differ, saying that Amalgam will poison you is just as wrong as saying that drinking water will make you explode and burst into flames."

It appears from the statement above, that Dr. Barrett thinks that Amalgam and water are analogous - both being totally safe. EPA says that Amalgam has to be treated as a hazardous material when doctors remove it from your mouth. So how is it safe IN your mouth but not out of it?
I also pointed out incorrect information about Dr. Day's statements. (Dr. Lorraine Day claims milk promotes decalcification, Quackwatch says this is wrong; the literature supports Dr. Day). I reported my findings about Dr. Barrett's evaluation of various medical practises to my local Cancer Agency, which uses this doctor's opinions to further public knowledge of supposed misinformation: (The page which I am quoting has the Quackwatch references, which I am opposed to based on statements made about 1) Amalgam, and 2) Milk's role in furthering osteoporsis (if you drink more, you will not reverse osteoporosis; in fact it makes it worse in the long run, which is what we should be concerned about. The first one is about Mercury Amalgam:

    Hi,
I am still documenting the Quackwatch misinformation. BC Cancer is still quoting Dr. Barrett, who does not have the qualifications to be expert on the subjects he writes about. Here is yet another (Every time I visit his site, I catch him writing about something he knows nothing about) one of his junk stories. It is about amalgam. He says in his page it is as safe as water. EPA says it is a hazardous material. EPA does research, Dr. Barrett pulls things out of his own head. Does BC Cancer want opinions without science, or facts with references? Dr. Barrett cites no references in many cases such as this.
    Quackwatch says Amalgam is safe
EPA says no, it is a hazardous material. Which one of the above sites really protects your health, Dr. Barrett or EPA?
